On 9 November 2016, Manfred Weber MEP, President of the EPP group in the European Parliament, received the 'Deutscher Elite Mittelstandspreis' for his outstanding contribution to the SME community, making him the 23rd recipient of the prestigeous award. Predecessors include Former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, German political heavyweight Edmund Stoiber, Foreign Affairs minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and current Commissioner Günther Oettinger. The prize is given once a year to a politician who has put significant effort towards creating a better environment for SMEs and the self-employed. In the BMW House on the 'Kurfurstendamm' in Berlin, Mr. Weber was honored through speeches by Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and longstanding UMU member and prominent German consultant Prof. Dr. Roland Berger.
