On 7 November 2017, ESBA Secretary General Patrick Gibbels spoke at the European Parliament event: "A Second Chance for Entrepreneurs". Commenting on the report of Dr. Angerlika Niebler MEP, Mr. Gibbels stressed the poor entrepreneurial climate in Europe as a root cause for the lack of second chances for entrepreneurs. "In the US, entrepreneurs who take risks are admired and are given another when if their business fails. Failure to Statistics show that these second-time entrepreneurs are far more successful. Early restructuring and the removal of the stigmatization on bankruptcies, along with setting the right framework conditions may help Europe to become a more hospitable environment for Entrepreneurs".
Gibbels also mentioned the involvement of the business organisations present in an EU funded project called Early Warning Europe, aimed at signalling and preventing bankruptcies.
