16 June 2008: The ESBA Board Meeting and 'European SMEs Team-Up Against Red Tape' 10th Anniversary Activities took place in Brussels

On 13/06, ESBA's second Board Meeting of 2008 was held at Logos Public Affairs in Brussels. Following productive discussions, the draft Board Meeting Minutes and actions arising will be distributed to attendees. 07 June 2008: ESBA President, Tina Sommer, attended the Conference on the European Charter for Small Enterprises in Bled and made a presentation at the "Europe at our Doorstop" Conference in Ljubljana.

From 03-05/06, ESBA President Tina Sommer attended the Conference on the European Charter for Small Enterprises hosted by the European Commission and the Slovenian Presidency in Bled. The annual conference provides a forum for business organisations and policy makers to learn from each other the best ways to improvethe business environment for small enterprises. Alongside the conference programme, the visit entailed a series of meetings with representatives of SME associations, including the Center for Entrepreneurship and Executive Development (CEED) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia (GZS). Tina also made a presentation on "European Policy for SMEs from the perspective of Entrepreneurs” at a Conference entitled "Europe at our Doorstop", hosted by the Regional Chamber of Commerce in Ljubljana. A trip to Croatia is scheduled to take place in October.

15 February 2008: The ESBA Board Meeting took place in Gibraltar

On 08/02, ESBA's first Board Meeting of 2008, hosted by the GFSB, was held at the Eliot Hotel in Gibraltar. Following productive discussions, the draft Board Meeting Minutes and actions arising will be distributed to attendees.

18 January 2008: ESBA expert, Gabriel Goucha, attended the first meeting of the Commission's HLG on Reducing Administrative Burdens

Convened by European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, Vice-President Günter Verheugen and chaired by Edmund Stoiber, former Prime Minister of Bavaria, the Commission's 'flagship' High Level Group (HLG) on Reducing Administrative Burdens held its first meeting on 17/01. The main aim of the HLG, which has a 3-year mandate, is to support the Commission in meeting the goals of the Action Plan for cutting red-tape. Its key target is to reduce admin burdens for businesses in the EU by 25% by 2012. Gabriel Goucha, ESBA Secretary and Vice-President of member organisation PME Portugal is one of 15 experts who has been appointed to the HLG. Mr. Goucha attended its first meeting, which sought to decide on procedural aspects of its work. ESBA looks forward to supporting Gabriel and the HLG in 2008.
